Moxie is “that intangible thing”, that heartfelt, courageous knowing, that allows us to leap with trust, believing that the outcome will be as it is intended. Rooted in the heart, Moxie is what answers the call of a challenge by standing tall and saying, “I can make it happen”. Good Heart + Courageous Spirit = Good Moxie
By answering the question: “How did you get here from there?” we can help others overcome their fears and take their own leaps. Through healthy eating, yoga, and a deep spiritual experience in meditation, Deena found courage, daring and spirit (Moxie) to remove anxiety and bring into her life love and purpose.

Good Moxie

Our third date was at the Autobahn, ripping around that road course in the ‘65 Tempest. I remember closing my eyes at one point to combat nausea and thinking to myself that “all four tires are not on the road right now”. We have a large canvas photo of that day on the wall of our foyer. (It shows that, in fact, all four tires were NOT making contact with the road. A testament to the stiffness of the Schwartz chassis!) 😜
🏎
Almost eight years later, I got to ride in his Z06 around Road America with my eyes wide open and an ear-to-ear smile 😃. (I’ve learned to plant my feet and hold on to the seat to avoid the queeze).🤢

This Peace Lily plant was given to me as a graduation gift of sorts in 1993 by a few of the weekend night shift CCU nurses at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood , IL. They gave it to me planted in a bedpan 😁 on my last day there as a nurses aide.
👩‍🎓
I graduated with a BSN from the UIC College of Nursing and went on to work in the MICU/CCU at Northwestern Hospital, but I never forgot the experiences that I had @Loy ola_medicine.
🙏🏻
I am forever grateful to two Loyola nurses who put me on the path to becoming a #crna. Roselyn Krawczyk took a chance and gave me a night-weekend job that made it possible for me to go right into an ICU as a newly graduated RN. Mary Bondmass ( @unlvnursing )took me under her wing to teach me things I could have never learned in any book.
💦
Every time I give this old plant a drink of water, I am reminded of the enthusiasm and leadership of these two nurses who impacted my early days as a nurse.
🌱
26 years later, this plant has moved along with me, growing, blooming, almost dying a couple of times from being re-potted, transplanted or being sometimes neglected.
🙏🏻
I still love what I do and have been blessed to have learned so much from so many who have mentored me along the way.
👩‍⚕️
Becoming a nurse was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
🌺
Every plant in my house has a story. This simple old plant sits quietly atop my desk, next to my Pa’s old medical bag, thriving in its sunny, private little spot.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” - Maya Angelou

“I am not your rolling wheels. I am the highway. I am not your carpet ride. I am the sky.” One of my favorite songs... still.

I just read this and it reminded me of Saturday mornings when my mom blasted John Denver on the 8-track. ❤️

“And reach for the heavens
And hope for the future
And all that we can be
And not what we are.”
(The Eagle and the Hawk,1972)

Knowing is not enough, we must apply.
Willing is not enough, we must do.
